Cuttack: The health wing of the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) on Tuesday confirmed that the fish sold in the Silver city is safe for consumption as the fish samples were tested negative for cancer-causing formalin.
A 15-member team led by joint commissioner of Fisheries department Pratap Ranjan Rout and CMC officials conducted a raid at the fish market in Khapuria today morning.
The team collected eight fish samples and sent it for laboratory testing to trace the presence of the harmful chemical. However, the reports confirmed that no formalin content was found in the test.
Notably, the Fisheries and Animal Resources Development department had found traces of formalin in Pomfret fish samples procured from Unit-IV fish market in Bhubaneswar.
It is worth mentioning here that the Commissioner of Food Safety on Monday had asked the public health officer of all districts to collect random samples of fish from the market for quality check at State Food Testing Laboratory in Bhubaneswar.
