Bhubaneswar: In a major relief to the people of Odisha, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday announced that there is no cyclone threat to the state.

The depression has turned into a deep depression and is likely to weaken in coming days, said Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, Head of Cyclone Warning Division of IMD.

“There is no chance of the deep depression further intensifying and there is no possibility of a cyclone,” he added.

The deep depression is likely to move slowly west-northwestwards initially during the next 24 hours and subsequently, it is likely to move northwards and start to weaken thereafter.

However, under its impact, several parts of Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand would experience heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next 48 hours till October 10.
