New Delhi: A day after arresting Congress MLA from Manipur Yamthong Haokip in connection with a missing arms case, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday recovered six more pistols.

Haokip was arrested in connection with the case pertaining to theft of 56 pistols and 58 magazines from the Director General (of Police) pool armoury located within the premises of 2nd Manipur Rifles Battalion, Imphal between September 2016 and early 2017. The Special NIA judge remanded him to judicial custody for 15 days.

The weapons had gone missing between 2016 and early 2017. During the investigation by NIA, KRA (Kuki Revolutionary Army) Chairman David Hangshing of Dewlahland in Imphal was arrested on August 24. David received the Police pistols from MLA from Saikul constituency, Haokip. KRA is an underground organization but presently it is in Suspension of Operations (SOO) with the government. The ceasefire with KRA is in force as of now.

During interrogation, Hanshing disclosed about a few of the missing pistols he had kept hidden at a place. Accordingly, the NIA team recovered six missing 9 mm pistols from a place about 20 km from Imphal under East Imphal Police District.

The seized pistols have been found to be part of the missing pistols and serial numbers of 5 pistols have matched with serial numbers of missing pistols while the serial number of 1 pistol has been erased.

Accused Hanshing was produced before duty magistrate today who remanded him to Police custody. He will now be produced before Special NIA court. Further investigation is underway, sources said.
