NIA arrests mastermind of Bodh Gaya blast case

Bengaluru: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested Mohammed Jahidul Islam alias Kausar (38), the mastermind of Bihar’s Bodh Gaya explosion case, from Ramanagara near Bengaluru.

The NIA officials also searched his house and recovered some electronic devices besides traces of explosives were also recovered. Kausar is the top leader of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) in India and is wanted in Burdwan blast case and in many other cases in Bangladesh also, the NIA sources said.

Notably, a low-intensity bomb blast took place near Kalchakra ground in Bodh Gaya on January 19 when the Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama was present in town. A couple of crude bombs and a large quantity of explosives were also recovered from the place.

Kausar was the mastermind behind the Bodh Gaya blast conspiracy. Following his directions, Mustafizur Rehman alias Shahin, who is his close associate, had arranged and assembled all the explosives for the blast.

The NIA produced Kausar before the Special Court for NIA Cases, Bengaluru. The court has allowed the NIA to take the accused on five days of transit remand.

He will be produced before the Special NIA Court, Patna by the NIA.
