Cuttack: The health division of the district will undertake repair work of a 98.65 km long pipeline in 59 wards under Cuttack Municipal Corporation as part of the Amrut Yojana of the central government to facilitate pure drinking water. A new 32 km long pipeline will also be set up.
With the total government allocation of Rs 381 crore towards distribution of safe drinking water, the fund will be released from the centre phase wise on reviewing the work progress at each stage. Already, pipelines 18 km long have been repaired for the areas of Badambadi, Shankarpur, Khan Nagar, Chauliaganj, Apania, Sikharpur, Mahanadi Vihar, Tini Gharia, Poparada, Kalyani Nagar and Rajendra Nagar. Similarly, under water supply sub-division, 14 km long pipeline passing under the road has also been renovated in various areas.
Starting with June 2016, the central government will allocate funds for a period of five years. Till now expenses of nearly 13 crore has already been incurred.
