Amritsar: Navjot Singh Sidhu cricket commentator and week-old minister, on Wednesday while justifying his stand on doing a popular TV show, he claimed “I do TV appearances to earn money to support my family and meet my family’s expenditure.”
Sidhu is regular in the blockbuster comedy show by Kapil Sharma. However, Punjab’s new Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had sought legal advice on whether he has to give up his TV career while in government.
Moreover, Assistant Solicitor General with Union government Pinki Anand was unequivocal in her opinion by saying, “I think he has to be very clear, when a person becomes a minister he/she takes an oath under the constitution. You can’t continue in a private position once you take oath.”
“My voters have no problem with my appearance on TV shows. What I do from 7 pm to 6 am should not be anybody’s business. I have already left most of my works related with TV shows, had also stopped being part of IPL. What else do they want? Shall I stop earning?” he asked.
In the wake of the ongoing controversy over Sidhu expressing his desire to continue to appear in The Kapil Sharma Show, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Wednesday said that his government is taking legal advice in this regard, adding they may have to change his portfolio if it is not permissible.
