Bhubaneswar: The State Haj Committee has selected as many as 731 pilgrims, 433 men and 298 women, for the annual Haj pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia this year.
Attending a programme of Haj pilgrims at the Jayadev Bhawan here, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said that the state government has made all necessary arrangements for the journey of the pilgrims and wished a happy journey.
A Haj Bhawan is under construction in Pokharipur area in the city to cater all basic needs of the pilgrims, the Chief Minister said.
The state government has decided to send four senior government officials with the pilgrims to ensure their safety and proper accommodation.
As scheduled, the pilgrims would leave for Saudi Arabia between July 12 and 29 from Kolkata and return to the state between September 2 and 12after staying there for 45 days.
