Naveen sanctions Rs 1 crore for treatment of conjoined twins

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday sanctioned Rs 1 crore from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) for treatment of conjoined twins of Kandhamal district.

The twins of Bhuan Kanhar and Puspanjali Kanhar of Milipada village are now undergoing treatment at All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi. Health and Family Welfare Minister Pratap Jena had visited the twins at AIIMS.

“The State Government is taking all possible measures for the treatment of the twins. The AIIMS has formed a 30-member team of doctors for the health check-ups of the twins. Since such cases have high mortality rate, they will take decision when and whether the surgery can be performed to separate them,” Jena said.

Meanwhile, a number of tests, including MRI, CT Scan and angiogram have been done on the twins for pre-surgery assessment. This is one of the rarest cases as they are craniopagus conjoined twins.
