Bhubaneswar: Chhattisgarh Chief Minsiter Raman Singh has often brushed off the Mahanadi row as trivial while Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik has constantly tried to highlight the issue. With Singh in the city for the BJP National Executive Meet, the tiff between the neighbouring states has reignited.
When the media asked Singh about his opinion on the solution of Mahanadi issue, he reiterated as always that an issue has been forcibly made out of the construction on the upper catchment area of the river and the public understands that which was reflected in the panchayat poll results. “The issue can be resolved if the two chief ministers sit and discuss,” said Singh.
Naveen however said that Singh is not right in saying this. “We had a meeting in presence of Union water resources minister Uma Bharti where we were both present for a mutual discussion but he did not co-operate at all,” said Naveen.
Meanwhile, Uma Bharti, also in the city for the BJP Meet, said that she cannot comment on the issue since it is in Supreme Court now. “But under river interlinking programme we are planning to direct Teesta river waters to Mahanadi and the overflowing water of Mahanadi to Godavari,” she said.
