Bhubaneswar: The two chief ministers of neighbouring states of Odisha and West Bengal today met at Naveen Niwas. Though media posed them questions regarding their political discussions, both Naveen Patnaik and Mamata Banerjee said the meeting was just a courtesy call.
“I’m very glad that honourable Chief Minister of West Bengal came to pay a courtesy call today,” said Naveen and denied having any political discussion with Mamata.
The TMC supremo also said the same. “I’m deeply honoured that Naveenji gave me time. I knew his father Biju Patnaik very well and he was very fond of me. He had helped me by sending an aircraft for a Women And Child meeting when I was a minister of State. As neighbouring states it is good to keep in touch. Politics is 365 days process but I wish Naveen good health and that his party should do better,” said Mamata. She paid tributes to Biju and Gyana Patnaik by presenting a bouquet before their pictures.
When asked about how regional parties will tackle BJP, she said BJP is no threat to regional parties. “We want regional parties to strengthen for the federal state to run well,” she said.
Both leaders denied discussing President candidate for the upcoming elections. “It is too early to discuss that. If BJD will choose a candidate we will support but it is too early to say anything on that,” she smiled.
