Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday flagged off 6th pilgrimage train of ‘Baristha Nagarika Tirtha Yatra Yojana’ from Sambalpur Railway Station through video conferencing at State Secretariat here. The senior citizens departed in the train will get to visit Shirdi, Nasik and Trimbakeshwar.
Transport Minister Nrusingha Charan Sahu, Health and Law Minister Pratap Jena, Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi and other senior officials were present.
In the year 2016-17, total 2,931 senior citizens had left for Rameswaram, Madurai, Allahabad, Varanasi, Rishikesh and Haridwar under the pilgrimage scheme.
Similarly, as many as 3002 senior citizens were sent by the state government for TirthaYatra to Ajmer, Pushkar, Tirupati and Vellore during 2017-18.
This scheme, an initiative of the state Tourism Department, is meant for the senior citizens to give them a chance in the lifetime to visit the important pilgrimage centres of the country.
