Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday felicitated four Odia girls in the national women’s hockey team and two in the men’s hockey team for their success in the recently concluded 18th Asian Games in Jakarta of Indonesia.
The CM handed over cash reward of Rs 1 crore each to four Odia woman hockey team players for clinching silver in the Asian games, at the secretariat here. Similarly, he presented Rs 50 lakh each to two men’s hockey team players who bagged bronze in the Asiad.
On the occasion, Patnaik congratulated the hockey players for their remarkable success in the Asian Games and said they have made India as well as Odisha proud. The CM promised that the state government would provide necessary help to them in future.
The Odia women hockey players who received Rs 1 crore cash rewards are Sunita Lakra, Namita Toppo, Lilima Minz and Deep Grace Ekka.
Similarly, Odia men’s hockey players- Birendra Lakra and Amit Rohidas received Rs 50 lakh each in recognition of their achievement in the Asian Games.
Notably, Birendra Lakra and Amit Rohidas, who were earlier selected for Biju Patnaik award for the year 2017 but could not attend the state-level function, were presented the awards today. They were presented players of the year-2017 trophies, citation and Rs 2 lakh each.
The Chief Minister also announced 7.5 lakh cash reward each for athletes Jauna Murmu and Purnima Hembram for participating in the Asian games. The Chief Minister felicitated both the athletes today.
