Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik congratulated Indian Men’s Hockey team on winning bronze medal by beating Pakistan 2-1 in the Asian Games 2018 on Saturday.
Hailing the contributions of Odisha hockey players Birendra Lakra and Amit Rohidas in the national squad, Patnaik said he was excited to watching them in action in the Hockey World Cup 2018, to be played in Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar from November this year.

Notably, India won the bronze medal in Men’s Hockey at the Asian Games 2018 after registering a 2-1 win over Pakistan. Akashdeep Singh scored the opening goal for India in the third minute of the match.
With no teams scoring a goal in the next two quarters, the match went to an intense fourth quarter. Harmanpreet Singh made the most of the penalty corner awarded in the 50th minute to double India’s lead.
A goal from Muhammad Aziz brought Pakistan back into the match but it was not enough to win them the match.
