Bhubaneswar: After speculations of BJD’s possible alliance with Congress fueled by a statement by BJD Cuttack MP Bhartruhari Mahtab that such a possibility cannot be played down, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday clearly rejected such a possibility.
When asked by the media regarding any plans of BJD to to support Congress and join the grand alliance against BJP hinted by Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh ahead of the UP elections, Naveen clearly stated there is no chance of supporting Congress.
“There is no question at all of any alliance with the Congress party. The Congress have always neglected the people of Odisha,” the BJD Supremo stated. Naveen was on a day long Balasore visit which he cut short and returned to Bhubaneswar owing to bad weather conditions.
BJD spokesperson Pratap Deb said that the party supremo’s statement is final and BJD will never support such an alliance. “Mahtab is not the party’s chief to take any such decision,” he remarked.
Interestingly, this is probably the first time BJD MP Bhartruhari Mahtab has made a public statement on his own that could irk Naveen. He has a record of not going against Naveen or making political remarks independently without consultation with Naveen as reported in Pragativadi Powerlist.
