MSP debate for paddy stalls Assembly; Standing Committee to probe farmer’s death

Bhubaneswar: The debate of increasing the minimum support price (MSP) for paddy has led to ruckus in the Assembly again today. The Opposition Congress party demanded the MSP to be raised to Rs 2800 to Rs 3000. The protests stalled the proceedings of the House till late afternoon.

Congress legislators began their demands as soon as the Assembly proceedings began. Legislator Tara Bahinipati even tried to climb the Speaker’s table. The debate was supported by BJP legislators too. Following this the Speaker adjourned the House several times.

Meanwhile, the Legislative Assembly Standing Committee will probe the suicide of farmer Hadu Bagarti of Bargarh ordered Speaker Niranjan Pujari on Tuesday. The Agriculture and Farming Empowerment Standing committee 2 under BJD MLA Pramila Mallick will be taking up the probe.
