Bhubaneswar: Miscreants ransacked Congress Bhawan here on Wednesday late night. Though no complaint was lodged with the police till Thursday evening, talks are doing the round that the rampage was fallout of a rivalry between dissident groups of Congress.
The matter came to the light in the morning when the visitors found smashed windows, glass panes and flower vessels on the campus. What raised many eye brows was that nobody, including Congress state president Prasad Harichandan and employees of Congress Bhawan was willing to speak on the matter. The lone security guard was unavailable for comment.
The incident came a day after National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) suspended its Odisha vice-president Kiran Sahoo for allegedly misbehaving with senior Congress leader B K Hariprasad a few days ago. Hariprasad, an All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary, is in-charge of Odisha affairs of the opposition party. Sahoo and his supporters earlier threatened to oppose Hariprasad’s visits to Odisha as they were miffed at his absence in the funeral rite of senior leader Lalatendu Bidyadhar Mohapatra recently.
“We strongly suspect a group of disgruntled supporters of NSUI attacked Congress Bhawan. The Congress Bhawan should immediately lodge a complaint with the police. The CCTV footages should be scanned to identify the attackers,” said a Congress Bhawan employee.
