Miscreants kill elderly woman, loot house

Five held for killing 6 priests in Aligarh

Bhubaneswar: An elderly widow was allegedly murdered by unidentified miscreants during a robbery at her house at Ganguari near Pahala on the city outskirts here on Thursday.

The deceased, identified as Manorama Panda, was staying alone in her home after marrying off her only daughter in the same locality.

According to sources, some unidentified miscreants had barged into her house last night and looted cash and gold ornaments. It is suspected that miscreants had killed the elderly woman after confrontation with her.

The incident came to light when the deceased’s daughter, who used to live in the same locality, found her mother lying in a pool of blood and informed the same to the local police.

“When my mother didn’t receive my repeated phone calls this morning, I went to her house and knocked on the door but there was no response. We then broke open the door only to find her lying in a pool of blood,” the deceased’s daughter told the media.

Police along with a scientific team and dog squad reached the spot and launched as probe. The body has been sent for post mortem.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the elderly woman was murdered while some cash and gold were missing from the house. However, the exact cause behind the woman’s death is yet to be ascertained, police said.
