Bhubaneswar: A six-year-old girl, who was allegedly raped by her 12-year-old relative at a slum in Bhubaneswar yesterday, is battling for survival at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

The condition of the minor girl was stated to be critical. She was shifted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the paediatric ward after surgery, SCB emergency officer Bhubanananda Maharana informed.

Maharana said a team of five doctors had been treating the minor girl. The doctors’ team will keep a close vigil on her.

On the other hand, the police arrested the accused, who is the maternal uncle of the polio-affected victim, for the heinous crime.

According to sources, victim hailing from Sabar Sahi Basti under Laxmisagar police jurisdiction was alone at her house on Tuesday when the accused committed the crime. The victim with severe injuries in her private part was shifted to capital hospital. Later, she was referred to SCB.
