Bhubaneswar: Stringent action will be taken against Cooperative Societies which are selling Urea at higher rates in the state, Cooperative Minister Surya Narayan Patro warned today.
The Odisha government has decided to sell Urea at the revised price of Rs 295 per bag after implementation of GST.
However, there are allegations that a few cooperative societies are selling it at higher prices than the government’s revised price.
According to reports, the price of Urea prior to July 31 was Rs 298 per bag but after the implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) it was reduced to Rs 295 per bag.
The department decided to compensate the loss of Rs 3 per bag to the sellers and instructed all cooperative societies, who get Urea from the Markfed, to sell it to farmers at the new price. However, the Cooperative Societies are allegedly selling the Urea at a higher price.
Meanwhile, the Registrar of Cooperative Societies has been directed by the Minister to write a letter to all the Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies and Secretary of Central Cooperative Banks (CCBs) to keep a close vigil on the irregularities and take stringent action against those guilty of selling Urea at a higher price.
