Bhubaneswar: The State Government on Friday warned of strict action against those selling urea at prices higher than the one fixed by the Government after the implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST).
The Cooperative Department had decided to sell urea at the revised price of Rs 295 per bag after implementation of GST. But it was alleged that some cooperative societies selling it at higher prices than the fixed price.
State Cooperative Minister Surya Narayan Patro said selling urea at higher rates will invite stringent action from the Government. Providing urea to farmers is the duty of Markfed. It supplies urea to cooperative societies and they sell it to the farmers, Patro said.
The price of urea bought before July 31 was Rs 298 per bag but after the implementation of GST it was revised to Rs 295 per bag. The department decided to compensate the loss of Rs 3 per bag and all the cooperative societies were instructed to sell it at the new price, the Minister said.
