Married man rapes college student in Balasore

Rewari gangrape case

Balasore: A first year college student was allegedly raped by a married man at Digabhanra village under Khantapada police limits in Balasore district on July 28.

The matter came to light today after the victim filed a complaint with the Khantapada police against the accused, identified as Kanhucharan Jena of Soro.

According to sources, Jena is married and has two children. The accused was on a visit to his in-law house in the same village.

In the complaint, the victim has alleged that Jena tricked her into coming to his house when she was on her way to her college in Gopalpur on July 28. He then intoxicated her with a spiked drink and repeatedly raped her.

The girl immediately narrated the incident to her parents following which a kangaroo court was convened in the village, on the basis of the girl’s complaint. However, the kangaroo court failed to reach a solution.

After waiting for justice for two days, the victim filed a complaint with the Khantapada police.

According to police the accused is absconding after the incident. “While the victim has been sent for medical examination efforts are on to nab the accused,” said a police officer.
