Mumbai: After much controversies and delays, Zee Studios finally released the trailer of Kangana Ranaut starrer period-drama Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi on Tuesday. The Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan will be heard narrating the story of Rani of Jhansi in the movie.
Manikarnika portrays the story of Rani Laxmibai’s battle with the East India Company, which made her one of the first freedom fighters of India.
Manikarnika star cast includes TV actress Ankita Lokhande as Jhalkarbai, Atul Kulkarni as Tatya Tope and Sonu Sood as Sadashiv. The venture is produced by Kairos Kontent Studios under the directorial of Krish Jagarlamudi, with an estimated budget of 75 crores.
The movie surrounds around the life of Rani Laxmibai (played by Kangana) and her campaign against the East India Company in the revolt of 1857, the first major revolt to happen in the country.
Actor Sonu Sood was set to play the role of Sadashiv, before he quit the project, while acclaimed actor Atul Kulkarni is seen portraying another revolutionary Tatya Tope, the general in the Indian rebellion of 1857 and one of its notable leaders. However, the trailer showed no glimpse of Sonu.
The poster was shared on the occasion of 72nd Independence Day to add up to the patriotic ambiance. Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi is slated to hit theatres on January 25, 2019.
