Man slits girl’s throat in broad daylight near college entrance in Chennai


Chennai: A 19-year-old student was allegedly killed by a man on Friday afternoon as she was leaving her college at West KK Nagar.

M Aswini, a first year B Com student of Meenakshi Academy of Higher Education and Research, was allegedly stabbed to death when she was walking on the Loganathan street, about 100 meters from her college, by one Alagesan.

At around 2.45 pm today, Aswini was walking towards the bus stop when Alagesan, who was also carrying a bottle of kerosene, stopped and slit her throat using a knife.

Aswini has not been attending college since her family lodged a complaint last month against Alagesan. Sources said that only for the past few days she started attending college but have been staying at her uncle’s house at Jafferkhanpet.

Aswini has lost her father and was staying with her mother at Maduravoyal, where Alagesan is also residing. Police said Alagesan was working as a water can supplier in the locality and aged 26.

According to police sources, Alagesan already had a police case registered against him. He was out on bail when he allegedly committed the crime.

Following the incident, locals caught him and handed him over to the police.
