Kesinga: A man allegedly murdered his wife and dumped her body on riverbed for not giving birth to a boy and tied the knot with another woman on the same day at Deogaon village under Kesinga police limits in Kalahandi district.
The deceased was identified as Sukeshi Luhar. The police have arrested five persons including the deceased’s husband Uchaba Luhar. Sukeshi had married Uchaba 17 years back and she had a 15-year-old girl.
Although the alleged murder took place one and a half month back, it came to light recently after Sukeshi’s parents raised concern after they failed to find her. The police recovered the remains of the body from the riverbed on Saturday, one and a half month after the incident.
According to sources, Uchaba killed Surekhi and married for the second time on the same day to have a boy. He buried the body on the riverbed to destroy evidence.
When some locals questioned about his first wife, Uchaba said that she went somewhere after being upset over his second marriage. Suspecting foul play, some locals informed the matter to Sukeshi’s parents.
Subsequently, Sukeshi’s family members lodged a complaint in this regard with Kesinga police. The police visited the village and questioned Uchaba about his wife. He lied to the police that his wife had gone to Raipur in Chhattisgarh.
Meanwhile, Surekhi’s family members sought the help of a women’s group who then met Kesinga inspector-in-charge seeking a thorough probe into the matter. Acting on the complaint, the inspector-in-charge launched a probe and found that the woman was murdered.
The police found the involvement of five persons including Uchaba in the murder. The police have registered a case under the relevant Sections of IPC and arrested the five accused.
