Soro: A person was today detained by police for allegedly depositing 22 fake currency notes of Rs 2000 denomination at a cooperative society in Odisha.
The man, identified as Bishnu Nayak of Biranchipur village, had gone to Khirikana Cooperative Society in Soro area of Odisha’s Balasore district to deposit Rs 1.5 lakh in denomination of Rs 2,000. Out of the 75 notes, 22 were detected as counterfeit ones at the cash counter.
The bank officials informed Simulia police station after the notes were found fake.
Police rushed to the spot and took the man into custody for questioning.
“One person had gone to the Khirikana Cooperative Society to deposit Rs 1.5 lakh in denomination of Rs 2,000. Out of the 75 notes, 22 were detected as fake ones at the cash counter,” said Simulia police station IIC Sanjay Parida.
Investigation into the matter is underway. We are trying to find out links of the counterfeit currency note racket working behind it, the IIC added.
