Man beaten to death over road mishap in Balasore, 1 detained
Balasore: One among the three persons who allegedly beat a jewellery shop owner to death on Wednesday following an accident at Patheswar village in Jaleswar of Balasore district was detained on Thursday.
The accused person was identified as Mrityunjay Giri of Sukhaganda Patna village.
The deceased person, identified as Harishchandra Kamila (54) was owned a jewellery shop at Singhla village under Basta block.
According to sources, Kamila along with two women was returning home from Chandaneswar after a check up from the hospital when his car rammed three bike-borne persons at Ranakotha near Patheswar village at around 8 pm on Wednesday.
Following the incident, Giri along with his two other friends dragged Kamila out of the car and thrashed him brutally.
Some locals spotted Kamila in a critical condition and initially rushed him to Jaleswar Community Health Centre (CHC) from where he was shifted to Balasore district headquarters hospital as his condition deteriorated.
However, Kamila succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital.
On receiving information about the incident, police reached the spot and launched a probe into the matter.
On basis of the statement of two eyewitnesses, police have registered a case under relevant Sections of the IPC.
While the police managed to nab one person, the other two accused persons are still absconding. Further investigation is underway while efforts are on to nab the culprits who are at large, said the police.
