Malegaon Blast case: Lt Colonel Purohit walks out of jail


New Delhi: Lt Colonel Shrikant Purohit was today released from Taloja jail in Maharashtra. Purohit was granted bail by the Supreme Court on Monday in the 2008 Malegaon blast case.

Army vehicles had arrived at the Taloja jail this morning and are accompanying Purohit to Army’s Colaba unit, the report says. Purohit yesterday said he wanted to rejoin the Army as soon as possible.

Purohit was produced before the special NIA judge S D Tekale yesterday in Mumbai. The court was hearing the accused on framing of charges in the Malegaon blast case. In the afternoon, Purohit’s lawyers in Delhi approached the Supreme Court, seeking modification of bail conditions.

On Monday, Purohit was granted bail subject to several conditions by the apex court yesterday after he had spent eight years and eight months in jail in the case.
