Bhubaneswar: The BJD has today declared to hold a signature campaign on Mahanadi Water Dispute. The ruling party will collect 86 lakh signatures from the affected families, BJD sources said. A daylong human chain from Hirakud to Paradip will also be formed.
Following no response to CM Naveen Patnaik’s letter to the President, the party has decided to step up their battle against Chhattisgarh’s construction on Mahandi’s upper catchment area, said party members. The party members will collect signatures from the families that will be affected by Chhattisgarh’s move and even form a human chain to put pressure on the central government, BJD members said.
The state government will also be taking the matter to Supreme Court to demand Chhattisgarh to stop construction on Mahanadi’s upper catchment area and to prepare a water tribunal for Mahanadi, said BJD spokesperson Pratap Keshari Deb.
