Lord Lingaraj’s ‘Rukuna Ratha’ halted at Tinimundia Chhaka

Bhubaneswar: The annual chariot, “Rukuna Ratha’ festival of Lord Lingaraj was held here with great vigour on the auspicious occasion of Ashokastami. Lord Lingaraj’s Rukuna Rath halted at Tinimundia Chhaka on Tuesday. The journey will again resume on Wednesday.

Following the holy rituals, bronze sculptures of the three deities, Chandrasekhar, Rukmini and Basudev were installed on the wooden chariot in presence of thousands of devotees. The chariots were dragged for a city tour at around 5 pm, with the scheduled time of 4 pm.

The deities riding on the chariot would travel a distance of about 2 kms to reach Mausima temple where they will stay for 5 days. However the chariot couldn’t cover the distance on the first day. The chariot will reach at the destination on Wednesday.

Elaborate security arrangements were made by the Commissionerate of Police for the festival. Similarly, arrangements were also made by some organisations to ensure availability of drinking water and shade keeping the prevailing heat wave condition in mind. Around 15 platoon of police force were deployed.
