Bhubaneswar: Train services were disrupted at Markona railway station in Balasore on Saturday as hundreds of local villagers protested at the station organizing a ‘rail roko’ demanding stoppages of three express trains at the station as District Administration imposed Section 144 in the area.
Locals of Simulia and Khaira blocks under the banner of Simulia Khaira Nagarika Manch demanded renovation of the station besides asking for regular halts of Puri-Howrah Express, Jagannath Express and Dhauli express.
Following indefinite hunger strike for the last two days hundreds of activists protested at the station sloganeering against the railway authorities and demanding government to step into the issue.
This has led to stranding of Puri Howrah passenger train at the station as the district administration has imposed section 144 in the area.
Meanwhile, activists have raised their tempo and have threatened to go on a bigger stir in coming days if their demands are not met. All this while effects of partial bandh have been seen in the area which has somewhat affected the normal life in the locality, sources said.
