Cuttack: Traffic movement at Banki Chhak of Cuttack district was disrupted today following a road blockade staged by the locals of Karabara village in a protest against the sale of liquor in the locality.
The agitators blocked the Cuttack-Banki road by burning tyres. Commuters faced a harrowing time as hundreds of vehicles remained stranded for hours on the busy road connecting Cuttack and Banki.
Following this, police personnel reached the spot and took stock of the situation. The cops assured the agitating locals that their demands will be taken into consideration.
The locals alleged that the illegal liquor trade has led to an increase in crime rate in the area and safe a haven for anti-social elements.
“We resorted to blocking the road as the district administration did not take any action to curb the unabated liquor sale even after repeated pleas,” said an agitator.
