Lightning claims seven lives in Odisha


Bhubaneswar: Seven persons have been killed by lightning as heavy rainfall hit several districts across of the State on Friday. At least three deaths were reported from Dhenkanal where a couple was killed in Sarang gram panchayat when lightning struck their house. Similarly, a 32-year-old man was killed while seeking cover under a tree.

In Keonjhar district, two youths going on a motorcycle were hit by lightning in Hatadihi block. One of them died on the spot while the other succumbed to injuries in hospital. In another incident, a 12-year-old girl Reema Naik also died after being struck by lightning on the day.

Reema of Jajapasi village under Sadar police limits was having lunch with her mother when lightning struck them. Her mother Nabat (30) too sustained burn injuries and was admitted to Keonjhar DHH. In Angul district, a 55-year-old man who belonged to Sadar police limits was killed by the lightning. There were reports of five others sustaining injuries in separate incidents.
