Leopard strikes again Nuapada: Woman, granddaughter injured
Nuapada: While memories of a leopard mauling a four-year-old boy to death at Haladi village under the Khariar Road Forest Range in Nuapada district are yet to fade away, an elderly woman and her granddaughter were injured in an attack by a leopard at the same village late on Sunday night.
The victims were admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital.According to reports, 55-year-old Dhanabai Pandey and her granddaughter Chandini (10) were attacked by the leopard when they were asleep in their house. The animal tried to drag the duo outside biting their legs. Hearing screams of Dhanabai, neighbours rushed to the spot, but the leopard managed to escape. Being informed about the incident, forest officials launched a search operation to trace the leopard.
It may be recalled that Chhaganlala, son of Hiralal Pandey of the village, had been dragged by a leopard into a nearby forest on the night of May 26 while he was sleeping beside his parents on the verandah of their house. His body was found from the forest next morning in a mutilated condition.
