At least 24 taken ill after consuming breakfast on Tejas Express
Mumbai: At least 24 passengers of Karmali-CST Tejas Express fell ill on Sunday after consuming breakfast served by on-board pantry car operator.
The operator is contracted by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).
Of the 24 passengers, three are in the intensive care unit but an official said there was no risk to their lives.
A Konkan Railway official confirmed, “All these passengers were deboarded at Chiplun and rushed to government and private hospitals.”
An IRCTC official said, “About 290 passengers were served breakfast. Around 12pm, 3 passengers complained that they were feeling uneasy and felt like vomiting. After couple of hours, more passengers complained of similar symptoms.”
The passengers have the option of selecting vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. The official said, “We still do not know whether poisoning was from veg or non-vegetarian food.”
