Ganjam: The death toll of Odia labourers in the deadly quarry blast in Kurnool of Andhra Pradesh has risen to six, after another labourer succumbed to his injuries on Sunday morning.
The deceased was identified as Ramachandra Nahak of Biti Nuagaon under Rambha police limits in Gajam district. He had suffered 80 per cent burn injuries in the explosion and was undergoing treatment at King George Hospital in Visakhapatnam.
Earlier, five Odia labourers from Ganjam district– Bhima Nahak of J.Radhagovindpur; Duryodhana Nahak and Manoranjan Nahak of Nuagaon; Rajendra Nahak of Rambha; and Pandab Lenka of Biti Nuagaon had died in the mishap.
On the other hand, two more Odia labourers are undergoing treatment at King George Hospital with 40 per cent burn injuries.
It is worth mentioning here that as many as eight Odia labourers were working in the granite quarry when the explosion occurred on August 3.
According to reports, police have arrested five persons including the granite quarry leaseholder in this regard.
Notably, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had announced Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia for each of the family members of the deceased. Besides, the state government will also bear the treatment expenses of the Odia labourers injured in the mishap.
