Cuttack: The state government on Thursday submitted an affidavit in the Orissa High Court in connection with the sensational gang rape and suicide of a tribal girl in Kunduli of Koraput district.
The state government questioned the validity of the petitions filed by former MP Mahamegha Bahan Aira Kharbela Swain, activist Achyutananda Swain and Bharatiya Bikash Parishad in connection with the case.
“The state government has taken all necessary steps in view of the sensitivity of the case. Besides, the state government formed a judicial commission for inquiry into the case,” the affidavit stated.
In the affidavit, the state government has also opposed the petition filed by the mother and brother of the victim. “They had filed the petition after being influenced by others, the affidavit said. The state government appealed to the court to quash all the petitions.
Acting on the affidavit, a division bench of Chief Justice Vineet Saran and Justice Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi has directed the petitioners in the case to file counter-replies on the affidavit of the state government.
Moreover, the HC sought the response of the Centre as border security forces (BSF) is one of the parties to the case. The HC has posted the hearing to the first week of August.
