Bhubaneswar: Lashing criticisms on Naveen Patnaik led government in Odisha, BJP national president Amit Shah on Friday urged the general public of the State to knock off the BJD from their perch.
Alleging the state government of having failed to ensure the most basic needs of the people Shah addressed a large gathering at ‘Jana Jagaran Maha Samabesh’ here in Baramunda ground saying while most states have surpassed their targets of developments and have achieved status of modernization Odisha has remained the same like it was years back.
What has Naveen done in past 17 years for the development of Odisha? He questioned.
Speaking on youth unemployment Shah said most youths are venturing out of state to earn livelihood. In the last two and half years the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s led Centre has provided Rs 1.30 lakh crore to Odisha but the BJD government has not let the benefits of the central scheme to reach common man of the state. PM Modi gives importance to act east policy and wants holistic development of Odisha but BJD is not leting it happen. So the State needs a sensitive government like BJP’s.
The BJD government has failed to ensure minimum facilities like drinking water are yet to be ensured for all, Shah said. If the Naveen Patnaik led Odisha government cannot provide basic amenities to people do they deserve to lead? He questioned.
During 2013 Congress led UPA had provided 23,000 crore to Odisha but the NDA has given 63,000 crore for five year plans during 2014. While the former had approved 764 crores for railways during 2013, the NDA government has released 4,682 crores during 2016.
Besides, for developments of National highways Rs 20,000 crore, for Coastal development Rs 4500 crore have been released while Rs 35,000 crore have been issued for creating investment opportunities for in PNG department.
Commenting on the recent demonetization decision by centre, Shah said the opposition has lost their enthusiasm after the move.
Similarly, senior leader and PNG Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said it is time to change the government which prioritises its interests over state’s general welfares. Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram also addressed the public meeting saying the party needs to fight unanimously for the upcoming panchayat polls. Besides other important dignitaries like KV Singhdeo, State party chief Basant Panda, Biswabhusan Harichandan also kept their views during the ‘maha samabesh’.
On the other hand Congress shrugged off the event as a non starter. OPCC Chief Prsad Harichandan questioned BJP’s motives saying that there was no issue of Mahanadi row in Shah’s speech. they do not think about the welfare of the state. Mahanadi row which is the biggest issue at the moment was not even mentioned by Shah which is very unfortunate.
There was no mention of chit fund, mining scam which has gripped the state government in Shah’s speech. I do not understand how the event could be a success, said a Congress spokesperson.
