Chandigarh: A group of at least 10 armed men broke into the Nabha Central Jail in Punjab on Sunday early morning and helped escape Khalistan Liberation Force(KLF) Chief Harminder Singh Mintoo and four other criminals.
The men dressed in police uniform blank fired over 100 rounds and managed to flee the spot after freeing the five inmates. Sources said two policemen have been injured in the attack.
Notably, in November 2014 Harminder Singh Mintoo(49) was arrested by Punjab Police from Delhi airport. It is to be mentioned that Harminder who left Babbar Khalsa in 2009 formed KLF and is accused in multiple terror related cases.
Other four elusive convicts included Gurpreet Singh,Vicky Gondra,Nitin Deol and Vikramjeet Singh.
Meanwhile, police has launched a probe and high alert has been sounded in the state. Apart from it neighbouring Haryana, Himachal Pradesh have also been alerted. The Punjab government has announced a reward of Rs 25 lakh for any information on the armed men who helped the five terrorist escape from jail.
Punjab police records have also revealed that, Mintoo visited Europe in 2010 to develop contacts and left Pakistan in June 2013 for an extensive tour of Europe during a span of 11 months.
KLF was extensively using the internet for collecting funds, attracting recruits and spreading falsehoods and hatreds.
