Rayagada: In yet another incident of State Government’s Janani scheme failure, a pregnant woman was being carried to hospital on a stretcher by her relatives in Rayagada district due to unavailability of an ambulance.
According to reports, Anku Miniaka (30) of Talasaja village under Kalyansinghpur block in the district complained of labour pain on Monday morning. Unfortunately, her family members were unable to fetch an ambulance due to its unavailability in Kalyansinghpur.
Left with no other option, they carried the woman on their shoulders with a stretcher for 2 km.
The plight didn’t end there as the woman was carried by them across river Nagabali amid waist-deep water.
After crossing the river, the relatives found a mobile health vehicle of the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram by which the woman was taken to the Kalyansinghpur Community Health Centre, where she delivered a baby girl in the evening.
The conditions of the woman and her baby were stated to be stable. It may be noted that there is no pucca road connectivity to the village, from where the woman was carried. Besides, lack of a bridge forces the villagers to cross the river in such a risky way during monsoon.
