Kerala flood: Odisha sends fire service team for rescue ops

Bhubaneswar: Taking note of massive loss and destruction in Kerala flood triggered by heavy torrential rains, the Odisha government on Saturday extended a helping hand to the south Indian State and sent a team of fire service personnel for rescue operations.



The Fire services DG BK Sharma flagged off a special team of Odisha fire services department comprising of 240 personnel along with 75 power boats left for Kerala today at 8 am in a special IAF aircraft.



“On request of the Centre, the state government is sending a team of fire personnel to Kerala to carry out rescue operations in floods-hit state,” Sharma said.

Sharma also recalled that earlier Odisha fire personnel had done a marvelous job during Cyclone Hudhud in coastal Andhra Pradesh. He said, “We hope that this time too our fire personnel will play a crucial role in flood operations in Kerala.”

On August 16, the Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had announced Rs 5 crore as financial assistance for Kerala flood victims.
