Bhubaneswar: Family members of Niranjan Singh the victim who committed suicide by self immolation in front of Kendrapra Collectorate Office on November 8 demanded compensation on Saturday protesting before the office.
The family members gheraoed the office building alleging the collector responsible for the death of the person.
As per information, the family members have held the Collector responsible for the death of Niranjan in an FIR that they filed in the town police station earlier today.
Notably, the person identified to be Niranjan Singh succumbed to injuries earlier in the morning while undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College.
Sources said Niranjan a resident of Samagudia village on outskirts of Kendrapara had alleged of police excesses and tried to commit suicide by dousing kerosene and setting himself on fire as a mark of protest.
According to information, some persons had illegally curbed their Indira Awas house. Even though they filed complaints at police and at Collector’s grievance cell the police instead of arresting culprits arrested Niranjan and tortured him. With neither police nor the District administration listening to his pleas Niranjan proceeded with his suicidal attempt.
With his condition critical he was rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital and then to SCB.
