JK paper mill reopens as workers call off strike
Raygada: JK paper mill in Jaykaypur of Rayagada district which was shut for a long time due to indefinite strike was reopened today after the agitators called off their strike during the tripartite meeting.
According to sources, the company authorities yesterday held a meeting with the contractual labourers workers’ association. The plant authorities after agreeing on their demands, the association called off the strike.
Thousands of contractual workers of the mill launched an indefinite strike on August 23 demanding provision of wages of Rs 18,000 per month and equal pay for equal work.
The agitators also sought 12 days of casual leave and 15 days of festive leave, a group insurance of Rs 15 lakh, job regularisation of labourers who have completed 10 years of service in the company and employment opportunities for local educated youths in the company.
Further the company also promised to provide several facilities including placement of employees children, 20% bonus, 2 uniforms each to male and female workers of the plant.
Notably, on August 31, the agitators locked the main gate of the mill. After which the plant authorities held tripartite meeting in the Collector’s office late night.
