Malkangiri : With the Odisha government failing to curb the dreaded Japanese Encephalitis (JE) in the State, local adivasi activists in Malkangiri under the banner of Zilla Adivasi Samaj Mahasangh held their protests and tried to forcibly barge into the district collector’s office on Wednesday, sources said.
Hundreds of agitators gheraoed the collector’s office and tried to rush into it. They have also staged a road block picketing the Malkangiri-Kalimela road. This has led to disruption in communication, sources said.
Meanwhile, police personnel have been deployed in the area to control the aggrieved mob and bring the situation under control.
Earlier on Tuesday, the organization held a 12 hr bandh across the district which led to disruption in normal life.
The voluntary organization has been threatening the state government of dire consequences if it does not do something more effective to bring down the death toll cases involving JE. They have also asked to hike the compensation to Rs. 10 lakh to each of the bereaved families.
