Bhubaneswar: Tackling Japanese Encephalitis will get a major boost once the mass vaccination programme starts from December 5 in Malkangiri district.
Informing about the development, district collector K Sudarshan Chakraborty on Thursday said the vaccination programme would encompass a total of 2, 18,027 children across the district.
It would continue for two weeks. Vaccination would continue from 8 to 5 everyday, the collector said.
More than hundred kids have so far succumbed to this deadly disease in the entire state which generally spreads through pigs.
The state government had earlier directed to conduct a door to door survey before the mass inoculation programme.
Meanwhile, a central level child expert has opined that besides JE many deaths of kids have also occurred due to consumption of Bana Chakunda seeds.
During the vaccination kids from 6 to 15 years of age will be vaccinated.
