Malkangiri : With the deadly Japanese Encephalitis disease spreading it’s wing in the district and the state government failing to take any proper measure to curb the same, the Zilla Adivasi Samaj Mahasangh, a local voluntary tribal organization has called for 12 hour bandh here today.
As per sources, shops, business establishments, institutions have been closed and vehicular movement has been completely disrupted as protesters have picketed and blocked roads at major points.
Organizing rallies the Mahasangh members staged protests at major junctions of the distrcist. They have warned serious consequences if the State government does not do something quick to control the ever increasing death toll due to the dreaded disease.
“With more than 97 death cases being reported during the last two months, government is yet to take any appropriate measure to restrict the disease in the district,” a banner sported.
The condition is getting out of control. We demanded compensation of about Rs. 10 lakh each of the bereaved families,” the tribal organization said.
Adding further, they have threatened to gherao the district collector’s office tomorrow (Wednesday) protesting against the increasing number of deaths due to JE and the role of government intervention towards the same.
