Dhenkanal: Tension ran high in Kamakhyanagar town today as public and local leaders staged roadnblockade at three places on NH 53 disrupting vehicular traffic demanding quick arrest of accused involved in killing the Dhenkanal district Biju Yuva Janata Dal (BYJD) youth president Jasobant Parida.
Local police rushed to the spot and pacified the protesters with a promise to arrest the culprits within two days.
Police have informed that the murder conspiracy was hacked following political and business rivalry.
Three teams under the district Superintendent of Police (SP) have gathers some vital information and the accused will be arrested soon, police added.
Local traders’ association, bus workers’ association and all panchayat samiti members were involved in the agitation.
Notably, the BJD leader was shot dead by unidentified miscreants yesterday while he was on the way from Dhenkanal on his Indigo car to oversee his new under-construction house at Anantapur in Kamakhyanagar town where he has a medicine shop.
While he was on the way, he was intercepted by four unidentified miscreants in a Bolero near Gandhi Mandir. The miscreants then opened fire and hurled 7-8 bombs at his car. Panicked by the attack, Parida got down of his car and tried to run away from the area to save his life. But the miscreants opened another 6-7 rounds of fire at him of which one of the bullets hit his head.
As soon as Parida fell down on the road, the miscreants fled the spot.
Hearing the gunshot, locals rushed to the spot and took Parida to Kamakhyanagar Sub-Divisional Hospital. Though the doctor there declared him as brought dead, the locals shifted him to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack hoping that he was still alive. But they returned back to Kamakhyanagar as the doctors who were accompanying Parida insisted that he was already dead.
