Jammu: Anganwadi workers and helpers from various districts staged protest on Wednesday demanding release of eight months’ salaries and enhancement in their honorarium.
Scores of Anganwadi workers and helpers, under the banner of J&K Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Association Kashmir, assembled at Press Colony amid anti-government slogans demanding enhancement in their honorarium, they also alleged that they have not received any salary from last eight months.
“It has been eight months and we have not received even a penny from the government, there are many widowed female workers who are the only support of their families but still government is paying no heed to our demands”, Tasleema Subhan, president of the association said.
The protesting Anganwadi workers and helpers said that they are receiving very low honorarium as compared to the other states. “Our state government gives us around six hundred from state share apart from the three thousand rupees that we get from centre while as Anganwadi workers and helpers get four to five thousand rupees share in other states from the state government apart from central funding”, said one of the Anganwadi workers.
The Anganwadi workers and helpers have protested many times since February 1st to press for their demands. They threatened to lock down all the Anganwadi centres if government failed to fulfil their demands.
