India’s official entry into the upcoming 89th Academy Awards (Oscars), Tamil drama “Visaranai” has crashed out of the best foreign language film contention.
The film was based on the novel “Lock Up” by auto-rickshaw driver turned writer M. Chandrakumar popularly known as Auto Chandran and is directed by national award winning filmmaker Vetrimaaran.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced nine films out of 85 movies from across the world in contention to advance to the next round of voting.
The shortlist will further be trimmed down to the final five nominations, which would be announced on January 24 next year. The Oscars award ceremony will be held on February 26 next year.
Visaranai features Samuthirakani. Dinesh, Ajay Ghosh and Kishore in the lead and focuses the spotlight on police brutality.Actor Dhanush has co-produced this movie.
