Bangalore: The India-Australia Test cricket series is getting beyond the field with controversies. India have approached Match referee Chris Board over Aussie skipper Steve Smith looking at the dressing room for hints before opting for decision review DRS.
Indian Captain Virat Kohli has accused that the Australian team members were regularly looking towards the dressing room on three days of the Test that India won by 75 runs.
“I have seen it twice while batting. I have seen their players looking at the dressing room. I told the umpires, this had to stop. I don’t want to mention the word but it falls in that bracket. I would never do something like that on the cricket field,” Kohli said on Tuesday after the match.
Cricket Australia has backed the captain and said the allegations are ‘outrageous’. Officials of CA said questioning Smith’s integrity is unfair since he is an inspiring sportsman.
However, Smith himself has accepted that he was indeed looking at the dressing room and did not know such a rule existed. He said he was ‘looking at the boys’ and shouldn’t have done that and called it a ‘brain fade’ after Handscomb on the other end was not sure about the leg before appeal and advised Smith to look at the dressing room.
Match Referee Chris Broad will be responding withing 48 hours.
