Sambalpur: The authorities have failed to provide a viable solution to the elephant menace in Badabahal forest range area in Sambalpur district.
As a result, the jumbos are sneaking into the nearby villages at will and the people are bearing the brunt of jumbo menace due to the indifferent attitude of forest officials, said villagers of Badaturanga.
An elephant which was strayed into the village last night has damaged at least four houses in the village.
The jumbo enter into the village late in the night and damaged the houses of Nirakar Mirdar, Kaibalya Pradhan, Ganesh Meher, Banamali Jhankar and Jagyanswar Rana and consumed their grains. While Nirakar’s son Mukesh was sleeping on a cot, the elephant entered into his house and damaged everything that came its way. Mukesh escaped narrowly.
Though the villagers informed the matter to the forest office, no forest department employee had come to the village.
